Farmhouses, barns, a country house and groups of cottages for a family gathering, a birthday or old friends. Every one sleeps twelve or more.
How we chose these: Every house that sleeps twelve or more. The ones we'd pick first are at the top.
One rule: the house sleeps twelve or more. At the time of writing that gives us eleven, from Redway Lodge in Porlock and Owlscombe at Porlock Weir, which sleep twelve each, to The Farmhouse at West Anstey, which sleeps 27 and has a kitchen and dining room that can seat 21.
They are a mixed set. There is a Victorian former school at Countisbury, a pair of interlinked converted barns at Upton, a Georgian country house near South Molton, and Coulscott House at Combe Martin. Near Dulverton, at West Hollowcombe Farm, adjoining cottages are let together. Emmett’s Grange at Simonsbath sleeps thirteen.
Layouts differ more than the numbers suggest. Redway Lodge sleeps twelve in four en-suite bedrooms. The Hay Barn on the Brendon Hills is a bunkhouse for fourteen. Before you book, read how each listing splits the beds and bathrooms, and whether part of the group sleeps in a separate cottage.
