Two things put a house in this collection: the owner welcomes dogs, and lists the garden as enclosed (and not also as shared or open). At the time of writing that is 74 houses, from The Linhay at Simonsbath, which sleeps two, to West Down Country House near South Molton, which sleeps sixteen. Porlock has the most; the rest are spread from Countisbury and Lynton to Huntsham and Knowstone.
Owners set their own terms. Most take one to three dogs; West Down Country House takes up to five. Some charge nothing; others charge a fee, usually per dog, from £5 up to £50. Many ask that dogs stay downstairs and off the furniture, and are never left alone in the house.
‘Enclosed’ is the owner’s description, not a promise that no dog can get out. At one house the owner notes that a very small dog may fit through the balustrade. Read each house’s own dog notes before you book.
