Coast
Harbour walls, sea views and chips on the slipway.
Cottages, harbour flats and a few farms from Ilfracombe to Blue Anchor, most of them around Porlock Weir and Porlock. Every one has a sea view.
How we chose these: On the coast, with a sea view. The ones we'd pick first are at the top.
The rule for this collection is short. The house is on the coast, and the owner lists it with a view of the sea. At the time of writing that gives us 33, from the Harbour House Studio at Porlock Weir, which sleeps two, to Redway Lodge in Porlock, which sleeps twelve.
Most are in Porlock and at Porlock Weir. Further west there are houses at Culbone, Countisbury, Lynmouth, Lynton and Martinhoe. East, there are a few in Minehead and one at Blue Anchor, and there is a single flat in Ilfracombe.
Much of this is Exmoor’s coast, which the National Park Authority describes as the highest in England and Wales, with hills rising to 433 metres at Culbone Hill. The woods between The Foreland and Porlock are the longest stretch of coastal woodland in England and Wales. The South West Coast Path starts at Minehead and runs west past most of these houses, with a series of climbs and descents, some of them steep.
