Lorna Doone Cottage, Lynmouth is a detached property approached via a footpath up from the roadside to it's elevated position overlooking the lovely village of Lynmouth. The accommodation is laid out over three floors, comprised of a kitchen/diner on the ground floor, dual aspect lounge on the first floor with access to the balcony, a shower room and beautiful picture window on the mezzanine floor and a double bedroom with river and sea views and a twin bedroom and bathroom on the second floor. Lynmouth is a beautiful seaside village twinned with Lynton, it's neighbour perched high on the hill above. The two are connected by road, footpath and the unusual funicular railway. The cottage is within walking distance of all the village gift shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as its harbour area and pebbled beach. There is a children's play park, tennis court and putting green. From the cottage, there is some great walking including the riverside walk along the wooded valley to Watersmeet, up to Lynton and the famous Valley of Rocks and beyond and also onto the famous South West Coast Path. The area is a rambler's paradise, with good walking across Exmoor just a short drive away. There are sandy beaches at Ilfracombe and pretty Devon villages to visit, as well as a number of tourist attractions.

Shallow steps to the entrance door. The ground floor comprises the kitchen with dining area. The kitchen is well-equipped with electric cooker and hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer. A variety of cookware, crockery, cutlery and glassware is provided. Steep stairs lead up to the first floor where the living room is located, complete with wood-burner for cosy evenings in (initial supply of logs will be provided in the cooler months). The TV has Freeview, NowTv with a film option and there is also a DVD player and CD/iPod dock. Wi-fi is also available (fibre internet, speed is around 60 Mbps). The balcony off the living area is a delight, a wonderful spot for relaxing and soaking up the view. Outside seating is provided. There is a shower room with toilet and hand basin on the mezzanine level. Upstairs again to the second floor is where the two bedrooms are located, one double bed and one twin. There is also a bathroom with shower over the bath plus toilet and hand basin. A hair dryer is provided for your convenience. A travel cot is available on request. Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Lorna Doone Cottage is fitted with central heating throughout which can be adjusted to suit your preferences. A basket of logs will be provided for you in the cooler months for the wood-burner, further logs can easily be purchased locally. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips. A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits/cake are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive. Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid will be present in the property. One or two toilet rolls will be provided.

The property is approached off Watersmeet Road via a pedestrian gate and a footpath with shallow steps leads to the entrance door. It is possible to pull up outside the cottage to unload/load your belongings from your car. On the first floor there is an external door from the living area to a covered balcony area with outside seating, which is a delightful spot to relax and enjoy the view! Lynmouth is an easy walk down the road, with a variety of restaurants, tea rooms and pubs. Lynton is reached using the town’s famous cliff railway or the footpath, where there's more shops and eateries.

The region
+ MoreLynmouth is a very special place to visit; the spectacular coastline and deeply cut river valleys in this unique area provide wonderful opportunities for walking; the South West Coast Path, the Two Moors Way and the Coleridge Way are good examples. The famous Watersmeet House is ...not far up the valley road, a beautiful National Trust tea garden situated at the meeting of the East Lyn River and Hoar Oak Water. The famous Valley of Rocks is a short walk out of Lynton. If this isn't enough, sandy beaches can be found within a delightful scenic drive. Lynmouth has a good choice of gift and art shops etc, pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes' walk. The twin village of Lynton is perched on the hill above Lynmouth, and is accessed via road, footpath or the famous funicular railway for food shopping. Lynton also has a range of tea shops, restaurants, a small cinema, as well as tennis and bowls facilities. The larger towns of Minehead and Barnstaple are approximately 17 and 20 miles away respectively, where you will find the larger supermarkets, high street banks, etc. There are plenty of attractions nearby, such as the steam railway at Woody Bay, the National Trust's Arlington Court and Dunster Castle, Exmoor Zoological Park, Watermouth Castle and The Big Sheep. There are a number of riding stables if you choose to explore Exmoor on horseback, or wildlife safaris in a 4x4 to view and learn about this beautiful area. Boat trips are available in season to see the coastal seabirds and mammals or to visit the stunning Lundy Island.
There are a number of cafes, restaurants and pubs in Lynmouth itself. In Lynton, there are cafes, restaurants, pizzarias, pubs, local food shops and a delicatessen. Larger supermarkets can be found at Minehead, Ilfracombe and Barnstaple. Out and about, there are plenty of pubs nearby serving good food, such as The Blue Ball at Countisbury, The Rockford Inn at Rockford, The Stag Hunters' Inn at Brendon, Hunters' Inn near Heddons Mouth, The Tarr Inn at Tarr Steps and the Black Venus, Challacombe. There are also plenty of cafes in the local area, serving local food and wonderful afternoon teas.
The area is very good for walking and cycling and Lynmouth is known for its good surf. The pebble beach is great for rock pooling and crabbing. There are sandy beaches a little further afield, including the award winning beaches at Ilfracombe. There are a number of horse riding stables, tennis courts and swimming pools nearby. Pretty Exmoor villages are well worth exploring. Clovelly is an unspoilt fishing village used as the location in a number of films and television programmes. The Doone Valley is home to the famous Robber's Bridge and St Mary's Church at Oare, made famous by RD Blackmore's novel "Lorna Doone". Allerford, Bossington, Porlock and Porlock Weir, are pretty villages with lovely places to pause for refreshment, close to the salt marshes with its abundant birdlife. Wimbleball Lake offers sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, walking and bird watching. There are a number of gardens to visit and while away the day such as RHS Rosemoor, Greencombe Gardens, Marwood Hill Gardens and Hartland Abbey. Children will love the variety of attractions, including The Big Sheep, the Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoological Gardens and The Milky Way. And don't forget the steam trains running from Woody Bay Station, for big kids as well!
Walk books and maps are available at Lorna Doone Cottage detailing many of the local walks, ranging from a couple of miles to day-long hikes. There are stunning coastal, river valley and moorland routes from the doorstep, or just a short drive away. There is a pebble beach at Lynmouth; there are sandy beaches at Ilfracombe and further along the coast.
