BAMPTON

Bampton Self-Catering Accommodation

Bampton is a picturesque historic town and parish in rural northeast Devon, England, located on the southern edge of Exmoor National Park in the valley of River Batherm. Just two miles from the border with Somerset, the town is perfectly situated for visitors to Exmoor, in the middle of a beautiful region with an abundance of things to see and do. The entire centre of Bampton is a conservation area with around 100 listed buildings that date back to the early 17th century, and many traces of the town’s circa-700 AD Saxon origins can be detected in local place names and groundworks. Other indications of the area’s rich heritage are evident in the Norman motte and castle—one of the best preserved in Devon, offering wonderful hillside views overlooking the town, the 12th century church, and the fascinating history of the local wool and pony trade. These days, any visitor to Bampton will come across a thriving community with a rich range of local amenities, including plenty of restaurants, pubs, shops, and places to stay suitable for all tastes. And those arriving over the October half-term holiday will also be lucky enough to experience all the fun of the famous, long-running Bampton Charter Fair which, quite incredibly,  is celebrating its 760th birthday in 2018!

We offer a wide variety of holiday cottages to rent in Bampton and the surrounding area, from a delightful converted water mill building that can sleep families or groups of six on the outskirts of the town, to a variety of extremely dog-friendly, self-catering countryside properties in the surrounding villages.

Dog-friendly Holiday Cottages in Bampton

Almost all of our Exmoor cottages are dog-friendly; just look for the paw icon which indicates that pets are welcome. Bampton provides quick and easy access to some very fine footpaths and local landscapes, ensuring that both humans and canines alike can get some exercise and soak in the scenery. A great many of Exmoor’s pubs and cafes even welcome dogs, too, so there will be no shortage of places to refresh after a day’s exploration of the moorland attractions.

Hotels, B&Bs, and Caravans vs Self-Catering Accommodation in Bampton

For those more familiar with staying in hotels, B&Bs, or caravans, you may find that opting for self-catering Bampton accommodation would offer a number of benefits. Rental of a holiday cottage allows unparalleled freedom and flexibility, providing the experience of a home-from-home as opposed to the more limited option of a traditional hotel. And for those not looking for a week-long trip, flexible start days and short breaks are also available.

Bampton as a Holiday Destination

Outside of Bampton, there is so much more to do across the rest of Exmoor. Just two miles away, the east side of Exmoor National Park crosses over into neighbouring Somerset, where you can visit Wimbleball Lake to the east or Tarr Steps to the south. Slightly further afield, but still well within reach of Bampton, is the North Devon coast with its stunning, dramatic landscapes to explore, such as the Valley of the Rocks, located just half a mile west of the extremely attractive villages of Lynton and Lynmouth. The endless amounts of footpaths and hiking routes along this part of the coast offer striking scenery and phenomenal views that simply shouldn’t be missed. Here at The Best of Exmoor, we have over 150-holiday cottages available for self-catering holidays across the whole of Exmoor, so have a browse and find your perfect place to stay.
