Coach House in Old Cleeve (Somerset) is an ideal spot to base yourself for exploring and enjoying the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park. It's also not far from the coast at Blue Anchor and the West Somerset Steam Railway runs nearby too!
The Coach House is a modernised characterful, well-equipped self-catering holiday cottage in the quaint village of Old Cleeve. Originally housing the coachman and his family, it has been tastefully updated. A great place to unwind, the peaceful village of Old Cleeve is away from the main roads yet the location is ideal for exploring and enjoying Exmoor National Park, Dunster Castle, the Quantock Hills and the Brendon Hills. Perfect for cyclists, walkers or exploring by car. It's just over a mile from the beach at Blue Anchor and the West Somerset Steam Railway runs nearby too. Set in a bright, elevated position, it has views of the surrounding countryside, the Bristol Channel and Wales beyond. The cottage is very well appointed with a sitting room, a spacious modern kitchen and a dining room. The stairs in the main entrance hallway lead to the first floor landing which serves two double bedrooms, the bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe area. Sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms Both bedrooms can be made up super-king size or twin beds - please request your preference for the bed configuration at time of booking Bathroom includes large shower enclosure (no bath) Coach House is available for minimum three nights stays. Strictly no smoking. The property will be ready from 4 pm on the day of your arrival. Please depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for our next guests. Dogs Coach House will welcome a maximum of two dog for a supplement of £25 each, per booking. Dogs are to be kept off the furniture, are not to be left unattended, are not to cause nuisance to neighbours (including the Alpacas and sheep) and all mess is to be cleaned-up immediately. There is an enclosed courtyard garden including a patio, table and chairs, washing line (no children play area ) attached o the Coach House. Please keep your dog on a lead outside of the property and enclosed garden.

Modern and well-equipped kitchen. Appliances: Oven and induction hob; Microwave, Fridge/Freezer, Dishwasher, Washing Machine. Other kitchen equipment includes toaster, kettle, cookware, saucepans, a variety of kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses. Lounge with gas fire; dining room. A television (with free-sat) is provided in the living room and wireless broadband is available throughout the property. Wifi, electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Coach House has gas central heating. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience. Please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on a d ay trips. A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive. The cottage is equipped with saucepans and crockery, salt and pepper mills, cleaning materials and toilet rolls.

Coach House has it own off road parking. There is a patio with table and chairs. A washing line is available Coach House is situated within the grounds of the owners large Edwardian House (which offers 4 star B&B). There are two other holiday cottages on the same site (The Pippins sleeps 2 and The Bramleys sleeps 4). If you have dogs with you, please keep them on a lead outside of the property and the Coach House enclosed garden.

+ MoreOld Cleeve is a peaceful village on the edge of Exmoor National Park, tucked between the harbour town of Watchet and the seaside resort of Minehead along the A39.
The village has a timeless feel, with thatched cottages, the medieval church of St Andrew's -- dating back... to the 12th century and Grade I listed -- and quiet lanes winding through rolling farmland. The neighbouring hamlet of Washford, a short walk away, is home to Cleeve Abbey, one of the finest medieval monasteries in England, cared for by English Heritage.
Despite the rural tranquillity, the village is well connected. Washford has two traditional pubs, a cider farm, and a station on the West Somerset Railway. The coastal hamlet of Blue Anchor, approximately one mile to the north, has a sandy beach, a beachfront pub, and a popular cafe. Watchet is approximately 3 miles east, with a working harbour, independent shops, cafes, and a museum. Minehead, approximately 6 miles west, has larger supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, and Lidl on the outskirts), petrol stations, and a range of high street shops.

The White Horse Inn -- A traditional 17th-century freehouse on the edge of Exmoor, set beside the River Washford near Cleeve Abbey. Serves an extensive menu of locally sourced food with daily specials, real ales, and West Country cider. The pub has a cosy atmosphere with beams and open fires. Accommodation and breakfast available. Well-reviewed on Tripadvisor with a Travellers' Choice award.
The Washford Inn -- A friendly pub and inn on the A39 between Williton and Minehead, serving a range of pub food and drinks. Letting rooms also available.
Torre Cider Farm -- An award-winning cider farm just off the A39, producing handmade cider from their own heritage apple orchard. The farmhouse kitchen serves stone-baked pizzas and seasonal food, with indoor and outdoor seating. Farm shop, orchard tours, cider tastings, and a children's play area with farm animals. A great family day out.

The Smugglers Inn -- A traditional beachfront pub across the road from Blue Anchor Bay, with a cosy bar, wood burner, and several dining areas. Serves pub classics including fish and chips and a popular Sunday roast, alongside authentic stone-baked pizzas. Local ales and West Country cider on tap. Dog-friendly.
The Driftwood Cafe -- A licensed 1930s beachside cafe and restaurant right on the coast path beside the West Somerset Railway station. Renowned for all-day breakfasts, excellent fish and chips, cream teas, and homemade cakes. Open all year round. Dog-friendly and child-friendly.

The Valiant Soldier -- A traditional country pub dating from 1720, ideally placed for exploring Exmoor and the coast. Serves tasty home-cooked food seven days a week using locally sourced produce, with an a la carte menu, daily specials, and a snack menu at lunchtime and in the evening. Real ales, wines, and spirits.

Dunster -- The medieval village of Dunster, approximately 15 minutes by car, has several pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, and an excellent traditional bakery. Well worth a visit for a meal combined with sightseeing.

Cleeve Abbey -- One of the finest medieval monasteries in England, cared for by English Heritage. Founded in 1198 by Cistercian monks, the abbey retains England's most complete set of monastic cloister buildings, standing roofed and two storeys high. Highlights include the magnificent tiled refectory floor from 1270, the angel roof, and the painted chamber. A fascinating and atmospheric visit. In Washford, approximately 5 minutes by car. Seasonal opening -- typically April to October.
St Andrew's Church, Old Cleeve -- A beautiful Grade I listed medieval church dating back to the 12th century, one of the oldest buildings in the village. Worth a visit for the architecture and the peaceful churchyard.
Torre Cider Farm -- Visit the orchard, see heritage apple varieties, tour the cider-making operation, and sample award-winning cider. Farm shop with local produce, farmhouse kitchen restaurant, children's play area, and friendly farm animals. Just off the A39 in Washford.

Lynmouth and Lynton -- The famous cliff railway connects these twin villages on the dramatic North Devon coast. The Valley of Rocks nearby is spectacular. Approximately 30 miles along the coast.

Blue Anchor to Watchet coastal walk -- A rewarding section of the South West Coast Path running along the Bristol Channel shoreline. Approximately 3 miles each way, taking in dramatic Triassic cliffs with fossil interest, views across to Wales, and the historic harbour at Watchet. The eastern section is particularly scenic, lined by colourful layered cliffs.
Blue Anchor to Dunster Beach -- A level walk along the shingle bar from Blue Anchor to Dunster Beach, with views of Dunster Castle in the background and the West Somerset Railway running alongside. Approximately 2.5 miles each way.
Cleeve Abbey and Dunster circular -- A 7-mile circular walk connecting the abbey ruins in Washford with the medieval village of Dunster, its castle, and gardens. A wonderful combination of history and countryside.
Quantock Hills -- England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is within easy driving distance to the east. The Quantocks offer open heathland ridge walks with panoramic views, ancient oak combes with rushing streams, and herds of wild red deer. Popular routes include Wills Neck (the highest point at 384 metres) and the Coleridge Way long-distance path.
South West Coast Path -- The famous long-distance trail follows the entire Somerset coastline. From Blue Anchor you can walk east to Watchet and on to Kilve, or west through Dunster and on to Minehead -- the official start (or end) of the 630-mile path.
Exmoor moorland walks -- Selworthy Beacon, Dunkery Beacon (Exmoor's highest point), and the Horner Woods are all accessible within 20 to 30 minutes by car, offering some of the finest walking in the South West.
Beaches
Blue Anchor Bay -- A sandy beach stretching for over half a mile, just one mile north of Old Cleeve. Popular for walking, rock pooling, and fossil hunting along the Triassic cliffs. The Driftwood Cafe and the Smugglers Inn are right on the beach. Free parking available.
Minehead -- A traditional sandy seaside beach with facilities, approximately 15 minutes by car to the west. Good for families.
Dunster Beach -- A quiet pebble and sand beach between Blue Anchor and Minehead, backed by dunes and marshland. Dunster Beach Chalets provide a nostalgic charm.
Kilve Beach -- A dramatic rocky beach approximately 20 minutes east, popular with fossil hunters. The Jurassic-era rocks and rock pools make it a fascinating stop.

The West Somerset Railway heritage line has stations at Washford and Blue Anchor, connecting to Minehead. Bristol Airport is the nearest major airport, approximately 90km / 56 miles away. Exeter Airport is a similar distance to the south.
