Through the front door and to the right, the sitting room is full of character with deep green walls, an exposed ceiling beam and a wood-burning stove set into a stone fireplace. The coffee table, bookcase and other wooden pieces have been hand-crafted locally in Dunster from spalted beech, giving the room a warm, individual feel. The adjacent dining area is home to a spalted beech live-edge dining table that comfortably seats four, and bi-fold doors open directly onto the paved patio outside. The kitchen is well-equipped with sage green units, oak worktops and a Belfast sink, with a bistro-style breakfast table with two chairs tucked into the window. A pine staircase with handrail leads to the first floor. The layout has a split landing with a small step between levels, worth bearing in mind for those with limited mobility or young children. The main bedroom is a generous double with a super-king size bed, an original cast iron fireplace and a wall-mounted TV. The twin room is simply styled with matching sage-painted panelled headboards and garden views. The shower room with toilet and hand basin serves both bedrooms. From the patio area, a small footbridge crosses the stream, leading through the garden to the rear gate and the nearby parking area.

The region
+ MorePorlock is a historic village on the edge of Exmoor National Park in Somerset, in a sheltered vale between the moor and the Bristol Channel coast. Its heritage stretches back to Saxon times. The meandering High Street is lined with independent shops, including a traditional butc...her, chemist, hardware shop, post office, two convenience stores, art galleries, and a cash machine. Most shops keep hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending during the summer season. The harbour hamlet of Porlock Weir is approximately one mile to the west and makes a lovely walk or a short drive. There you will find a 15th-century tidal harbour, a pub, restaurants, cafes, and independent shops and galleries. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 6 miles away. Here you will find larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco, Morrisons and Lidl on the outskirts with longer opening hours), high street banks, and a range of other independent shops.
