Quarry Cottage is an 1850's cottage residing in the valley of Hawkcombe, just 0.8 miles from Porlock. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep into the Exmoor national park Sleeps up to 6 in three bedrooms One Superking or twin bedroom, one king or smaller twins bedroom and one double bedroom. Dining room with wood burner. Large sitting room with wood-burner. Enclosed garden including a patio with table and chairs and swings. Lots of games, books and DVD's Car parking for up to two cars Unlimited dogs welcome for a supplement of £15 each Bed linen and towels provided Wi-Fi, heating and electricity included A basket (plastic) of logs, kindling, fire lighters and matches are provided Arrive from 4 pm Depart by 10 am We have most baby items for up to 2 babies, including cots, highchairs, buggies, backpacks, toys. Please do not allow the dogs upstairs or on the furniture. Do not leave dogs unattended in the property. Please note, all beds will be made up as doubles unless otherwise specified. If you have dogs coming, the stair gate will be put up at the bottom of the stairs. Please add to your notes if not required.

The property has been tastefully renovated with a spacious modern kitchen with pine work surfaces, and breakfast bar, American style fridge-freezer and 5 ring range cooker. There is a separate dining room with a table that seats 6 and a log fire. The lounge has direct access to the garden with sliding patio doors, with the feature of a part double glazed apex glass roof offering a light and airy room. There is also a contemporary log burner. There are 2 bathrooms in the property; one has a bath and shower attachment and toilet (upstairs), and the other has a powerful shower and toilet (downstairs). There are 3 double bedrooms, the main bedroom has a super king size bed or twin beds. The 2nd bedroom has a king-sized bed or 2 smaller twin beds, and the 3rd bedroom has a double bed. There is room for 2 travel cots in the main bedroom, or there is a smaller room downstairs that can be used for travel cot(s). Please let me know if you would like a travel cot or both set up. The boot room has a washer/dryer, sink and cupboard for coats and shoes.

Quarry cottage has a good sized garden situated at the foot of a historic quarry, which is fully enclosed, ideal for dogs. There are steps up from the cottage to the patio, with the rest of the garden laid to lawn. There are a patio table and chairs and a BBQ, and children's swings. The rocks from the quarry are a big feature of the garden, with many dry stone walls. There is a shed which can be used to store bikes or surfboards. There is also an outside tap to wash muddy boots, etc.

+ MoreThe cottage is walking distance to Porlock with its many amenities including pubs, restaurants, shops, butchers, recreation ground with playground and tourist information. It is set in 267 square miles of the stunning Exmoor National Park, on the edge of the ancient Hawkcombe ...woodland. It is based in the ideal location for walking and cycling with many footpaths and bridleways literally on the doorstep and the Exmoor, Quantock and Brendon Hills and the coast are all nearby. Close by are: Porlock Weir; a quaint harbour and hamlet within approximately 2 miles Dunkery Beacon; the highest point on Exmoor and in Somerset, a designated Ancient Monument. Lynton and Lynmouth which has the stunning Valley of the Rocks, well known for its herd of feral goats, and Cliff Railway Doone valley where the famous book 'Lorna Doone, A Romance of Exmoor' is based. Dunster; The medieval village of Dunster is in Somerset within the Exmoor National Park. With its Castle, Yarn Market, Tithe Barn and a wealth of listed buildings, Dunster is a favourite destination for many tourists. Porlock Hill - the infamous steep gradient section of the A39, with fantastic views at the top over the Bristol Channel to Wales and Exmoor. Minehead - The nearest town, with sandy beaches. The West Somerset Railway station of Minehead has vintage trains running throughout the year. The surfer's beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Puttsborough are just 45-60 minutes drive away. There are lots of opportunities to see the native wildlife of Exmoor, with red deer, ponies, birds of prey and many more. These can all be seen from the garden or in the local area. Exmoor National Park has been designated the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe.
Porlock village is 0.8 miles away and has a number of tea rooms, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Porlock Weir, just 2 miles away is also home to pubs and cafes.
Exmoor offers a great variety of activities for everyone with great food, drink and activities to suit all levels of energy and adventure including those who just want to relax. Quarry Cottage gives you the chance to park the car for a week or more and explore on foot. Porlock has local pubs, small shops and restaurants. If you need it there is also a chemist and a local GP surgery. Horse riding is available in nearby villages, a couple of local companies provide kayaking, paddle boarding and coasteering experiences. Great place for cycling with the option to store your bikes securely in the padlocked shed at Quarry Cottage and we offer Guided Mountain biking trips from Quarry Cottage. Steam enthusiasts can take advantage of the West Somerset Railway in Minehead. National Trust offers a number of properties including the beautiful Dunster Castle and a tea room on Selworthy Green. Being situated in Exmoor we are lucky to have Exmoor National Park literature to help guide you on all the beautiful places to explore. Exmoor beauty changes with the seasons and there are events throughout the year for you to enjoy. As a Dark Sky reserve, Exmoor is also a great place to enjoy the stars.
Quarry Cottage is well positioned to make the most of local walks and great views. There are walks into Hawkcome from the doorstep. Walking through Porlock village there are various walks to Porlock Marshes, Bossington beach and up to Hurlstone Point. From the marshes, you can walk to Porlock Weir, where there are places to eat, walk, relax or learn the art of catching crabs. Within a short drive, there are lots of equally fabulous views and walks which we would be happy to recommend to you. Great family friendly sandy beaches at Minehead and Dunster and further along the coast to Lynmouth, Combe Martin and Woolacombe. You can explore and enjoy the Exmoor coastline, kayaking, paddle boarding and climbing, there are a couple of local companies that can help you plan your adventures.
