Dowry Cottage in picturesque Winsford (Somerset) is a beautiful cottage, brimming with character. Situated in the heart of this charming village within Exmoor National Park, the cottage has three bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 guests. Outside is a pretty enclosed garden and the cottage is pet-friendly.
Dowry Cottage is situated in the heart of Winsford (Somerset), opposite the iconic thatched Royal Oak Pub and right next to Smithy bridge, an old stone pack horse bridge that crosses the Winn brook, that runs at the bottom of the south facing cottage garden. There is wisteria and roses climbing outside, and the good sized garden is edged for privacy with hornbeam and there are steps down into the brook. When the brook is low, children can have a happy time paddling and exploring. At the back of the cottage is a private and beautiful spot where you can sit / eat enjoying the incredible view down the valley. Exceptionally cosy and well laid out inside, the floors downstairs are mainly oak wood, with slate tile in the kitchen / utility / downstairs loo. Upstairs the bedrooms are laid in sisal. There are three bedrooms: two double bedrooms; one with with a king and the other with a super-king bed, the third bedroom has two single beds. The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests so your sleeping arrangements can be flexible. There are two bathrooms upstairs; one has a bath, the other a powerful shower. There are large heated towel rails and shaver points in both. The kitchen is equipped with a range oven, double sink, plenty of storage cupboards and everything you will need to cater for your stay. There is also a cosy sitting area for those morning breakfasts. Off the kitchen the utility room has a sink, separate washing machine and dryer, as well as an under counter fridge. The sitting / dining area has two large comfortable sofas and two chairs around a quick heating gas fire. The dining area is set up for seating for six. There is a second large reception room that used to be a sheepery, off the main sitting / dining area that been left clear for guests to use. Entrance to the property is via a small porch, perfect for shoes and boots to be stored out of your way. The kitchen is equipped with a range oven, double sink, plenty of storage cupboards and everything you will need to cater for your stay. There is also a cosy sitting area for those morning breakfasts. Off the kitchen the utility room has a sink, separate washing machine and dryer, as well as an under counter fridge. (The fridge has a small freezer compartment, there is not a separate freezer). The sitting-dining area has two large comfortable sofas and two chairs around a quick heating gas-fire (looks like a log-fire but is not), it provides fast and reliable heat for this room. The dining area is set up for seating for six. There is a second large reception room that used to be a sheepery, off the main sitting -dining area that been left clear for guests to use. There are three bedrooms upstairs: two double bedrooms; one with with a king and the other with a super-king bed, the third bedroom has two single beds. The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests so your sleeping arrangements can be flexible. There are two bathrooms upstairs; one has a bath, the other a powerful shower. There are large heated towel rails and shaver points in both. Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take them with you for day trips. Tea, coffee and sugar will be provided. There may also be other non-perishable items like a salt, pepper and oil available. Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid and dishwasher powder will be present in the property, and one to two toilet rolls will be provided.

The famous 12th century thatched Royal Oak Inn is in the 'centre' of the village, it serves great food and is family friendly. The Bridge Cottage Tearoom serves delicious home-made cakes, cream teas, ...cooked breakfasts and Sunday lunches. A small shop is run from the Royal Oak pub selling milk, bread, newspapers, and some other basic supplies. There is also a village green with swings and a stream. Wheddon Cross, approximately 4 miles from Winsford, is a small village with a mini-supermarket (open 7 am to 8 pm), post office, ATM and petrol station. Dulverton, around 7 miles away, is a small town known as the southern gateway to Exmoor. Dulverton also has a mini-supermarket plus a butcher, post office, some lovely restaurants and independent shops. Minehead is the main town in West Somerset, approximately 14 miles from Winsford. Winsford is an ideal spot to explore Exmoor from, on foot or in the car. For nature lovers, deer and wild ponies roam the moor above, and any birds live along the River Exe, which winds through the village.
